Gay Wrestler Comes Out to His Coach/Dad
Cole Fox, a talented wrestler at Catholic high school in Iowa comes out to coach – who also happens to be his father.
Fox has won 18 state wrestling title — 10 traditional and eight Class 1A state dual championships. So the pressure is high for the young athlete when he decided to tell his dad, who had always made homophobic comments, that he is gay.
He did it by writing a two-page letter and putting it in his father’s coat pocket … and then he waited.
In class, Cole got a text from his dad Ray.
“You are still a great son. And I am proud of you,” the text read.
“He must have texted me right after he read it and it was all good things,” Cole added. “He came home later that night and we talked about it and then he gave me a high-five. He said it was not a big deal.
“I made it a lot bigger deal than I thought it was going to be.”
