Gay Fish Festival Banned in Russia
Say it ain’t so. Russia’s homophobic policy just won’t stop. This time they are banning a festival intended to celebrate the “gay fish” subculture.
Authorities in the northern Russian city of Arkhangelsk have banned a festival intended to honor the gay smelt – a small local fish (pictured).
The idea to celebrate the gay smelt festival belongs to Russian LGBTQ activists who hope to get attention-grabbing headline to express their indignation at the continuing killings of homosexuals by ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
Russian authorities have denied all requests, due to federal “gay propaganda” law banning the promotion of homosexuality to anyone under eighteen.
