Dear Sambag: Going on a Date with a Deaf Guy
I’m going on a date with a deaf guy. I’m kinda freaking out. We have been messaging on and off since about Christmas, however recently we exchanged numbers and have been texting quite a lot over the last few weeks.
We live about an hour apart, so we decided to meet half-way on Friday after work for dinner. I’m worried that I’m either going to somehow make an a$$ out of myself or it’s going to be awkward.
He says that he primarily signs, (I can’t, obviously) but he is “moderately alright” at reading lips. I’ve been honest with him, and told him I’m nervous, and he has said that he’s nervous too.
Just relax and be yourself. You have kept each others’ interest this long, meeting will be fine. Maybe make sure your phone is fully charged so you can type stuff out if you have trouble communicating at first like texting back and forth with each other during the date. It’s fast and doesn’t really detract from the moment. Another alternative: bring a notepad. Good luck!
But I’ll stop there and let our readers weigh in. Please share your advice in the Comments below.
