Dear Sambag,

I think the first time I saw him truly smile was last month when I asked him if he would like us to be boyfriends.

While we’re just recently started to date, we’ve known each other for many years. And… he has issues. Many, many issues.

I won’t go into many details, but he sees a psychotherapist twice a week and a psychiatrist once a month. He takes 5 types of medication everyday.

Despite that, he’s worth it. Believe me, he is worth it. Every time that I’ve hugged him, every time I tell him to trust me, every time he talks about death, every time I hear him chuckle. He’s worth it.

He has bad days. And he has very very bad days. Somedays, he’ll stay all day in bed crying. When a day has been particularly bad, he’ll stay awake all night holding his teddy bear (his only true friend, according to him).

I’m asking if someone has been in a similar situation. What should I say or do in bad days? What I shouldn’t say? Is there something I can do to help him?

I just want him to be happy and him to feel something other than despair.
