Dear Sambag,

We are both 18 and in our last year of HS. We are both very athletic and I would say pretty intelligent too. My boyfriend has always wanted to serve his country in some capacity and for a year he has been exploring the option of joining the military. I have applied to universities for medicine around the country and he is still weighing his options although his father owns a business where he could work if he decides not to join.

His father is also a former soldier so he understands what it takes to get accepted.

I’ve known this guy since we were born. We grew up together. We’ve been best friends since we could have friends. I support it but some part of me is scared shitless for him. I cannot stop thinking about him being deployed then learning that he’s been killed.

How do I deal with it?

Vince

Dear Vince,

The military is drastically different than it was even from ten years ago. Low likelyhood he gets deployed, let alone killed. The struggle you will have the most will resemble the struggle as if he were going to a college in a far away state.

But I’ll stop there and let our readers weigh in. Please share your advice in the Comments below.
