Dear Sambag: Finally Admitted to Myself That I Am Gay
As the title says, I have recently admitted to myself that I am gay and I am not ashamed of it and actually want to come out as gay soon.
I am not worried about my parents reaction although I am a little nervous. I am a freshman in college and am rooming with a friend that I’ve known all my life. I don’t think he’ll mind too much that I’m gay as he has gay family members and has actually stopped a friend of ours from saying homophobic things at his house in the past to not offend his parents who both have gay siblings.
However, I am worried that if I come out he may be uncomfortable rooming with me. My question is, do you think I should just wait until the end of the year to come out?
What wonderful news! Congratulations.
I wouldn’t wait, if it were me. Sometimes you think that because coming out is such a huge deal for yourself (and it is), that it therefore must be a huge deal to everyone else. But it usually isn’t, unless they’re super homophobic or something. Chances are your roommate will be cool with it, especially if it’s someone you’ve known all your life.
But I’ll stop there and let our readers weigh in.
